Time Management Tips
While we all have the same hours in the day, it seems like there is never quite enough time to get everything accomplished. Being involved in any aspect of agriculture is a lifestyle, and taking care of livestock is a giant commitment.
A few tips and tricks to help you make the best use of your time and stand a chance of keeping your head above water:
More and more, digital calendars are taking over for written, daily planners. Many apps sync across mobile and desktop devices and can be used to send reminders or have shared schedules with family. We recommend Apple’s built-in Calendar app or Google Calendar.
Set Yourself Up For Success
Be proactive and save more time than you thought was possible.. Prepare by having buckets washed or keeping supplies organized prevents wasting time on hunting things down and getting them ready.
Tangible lists of what needs to be done will keep you on track and cut down on getting distracted. If something pops up that needs to be handled right away, you won’t forget what you were doing in the first place. (If you’re one to lose your hard copy list, apps like Wunderlist or todoist are helpful.)
Ask For Help
Know your strengths. Going solo on certain tasks might seem easier, but is much less time-effective. A friend or family member is usually willing to lend a hand when you need it and will help speed along the task.
Create Down Time
Setting aside time for yourself as a reward will incentivize you to work through tasks more effectively. You’ll be less stressed when the job is done, and feel better when it’s time to get back to work.
Taking these small steps will put you on the track for forming positive habits and put you a step ahead of the rest.
