Dear New Showman...

Dear New Showman...

Dear new showman,

Keep trying your hardest. Showing livestock is not an easy task regardless if you grew up in the industry or not. Take the time to practice daily and work hard. Success comes to those who work at it. You might not want to listen to your parents when they say you need to walk your steer/hog/lamb/goat, but they know what they are talking about.

Let mom and dad take the pictures. No one will admit to liking to have their picture taken. But let your parents have their moment. They are so incredible proud of you and want to document the moment forever.

Find an older exhibitor to help you. There are so many older exhibitors who would love to help you. Seek them out and let them give you tips. They’ve been in your shoes and know what it feels like. Remember that everyone was once a beginner.

Enjoy every moment of showing. It’ll be over before you know it. You might be a peewee showman now, but before you know it, you’ll be a senior showing for the last time before you know it. Take pride in your projects and work hard.

Sincerely,

A seasoned showman

P.S. Selling your animal does get easier. It might not seem like it today, or even a week from now, but in time it does get easier to sell your market projects. It gets even better when you have more of them at home waiting to be worked with.
