Why I'm Thankful to be a Stock Show Kid

Why I'm Thankful to be a Stock Show Kid

I’m thankful for early mornings.

I’m thankful for late nights.

I’m thankful for good cattle and even better people.

I’m thankful for comfy boots.

I’m thankful for the experiences.

I’m thankful to be a stock show kid.

Thanksgiving is a time for us to remind ourselves just how blessed we are to be in the agriculture industry. It’s also a time for us to look back on accomplishments made in and out of the showring throughout the past year. Maybe you won your county fair, maybe you won at a national show or even halter broke that heifer that was super unruly.

I’d be lying if I said being a stock show kid is easy; we all know that. With tough tasks and long hours in the barn, it soon all becomes worth it - something to be thankful for. From the time you truly become a stock show kid to the day you are in the ring as a junior for the last time, remember to always take in the memories, emotions and experiences as you will never be able to relive them again. Be thankful for your animals, your family, your friends and anything else that occurs to you along the way, even if it doesn’t go how you want it to. One day you’ll look back and be thankful or even grateful for that experience or occurrence.

As a stock show kid, I’m personally thankful for the laughs, the friends, my family, my cattle and my good and bad times in the ring. Maybe I didn’t place where I wanted to in class or even got a little too cocky, but I’m still thankful for those which gave me a much needed reality check. However, I’d be crazy not to be thankful for my various wins in the ring throughout my time as a stock show kid (with three years left).

Truth is, as a stock show kid, we know what it means to be thankful, humble and hardworking. It’s simply in our blood.

I’m thankful for my stock show family.

I’m thankful for last minute jitters before walking into the ring.

I’m thankful for my added confidence.

I’m thankful for the learning curves.

I’m thankful to be a stock show kid.
