Dear State Officer Candidate...

Dear State Officer Candidate...

Dear State Officer Candidate,

This is such an exciting time, so much anticipation is building for you. If you are like me, you are getting ready to tackle a goal that you’ve had since the beginning of your FFA career. Or, if you are like many others you have recently decided that you want to serve the FFA further and you are hoping to be elected. Either way, you know big things are coming. Having gone through the election process myself, I have some advice I want to give you as you enter this time of wild emotions.

1) Finish Where You are Now

Here you are, the end of you Senior year. ENJOY IT! Soak up these last bittersweet days of high school. Prom, senior trip, banquets, graduation, please do not rush through all of these things and blow them off in order to prepare for state office. Breathe it all in an relax, trust me you’ll regret it if you don’t!

2) Don’t Forget About Your Own Chapter

This goes along with my previous statement. Right now you are still a chapter officer, or an involved member of a chapter. Don’t forget where you are and what your chapter has done for you. Finish out your commitment to them, give them your full attention and effort; after all, they are still your main priority.

3) Enjoy This Time of Major Personal Growth

Now, that all being said, I hope that you are excited. The time between now and State Conference will be full of growth and development. Take advantage of all the materials and resources that you are receiving. Take every piece of advice you receive and apply it in the best way that you can. Be 100% authentic, in and out of the interviews. Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable. I promise you will learn things about yourself that you never knew, embrace them. These are the things that make you unique, and valuable. These are the things that will set you apart.

4) If You’re Elected…

Congratulations! This is about to be one of the best experiences you’ve ever had. It won’t be exactly as you imagined, but it will be something that you will never regret! Enjoy getting to know your teammates and advisors. Cherish every moment spent with a member, and take every opportunity to learn from advisors and industry leaders. You have one year, make it the best.

5) And If You’re Not…

It is ok! I know this was so important to you, and that you had everything planned around this. I know that you feel as if you aren’t good enough and you’re a failure. I am telling you that is NOT true! You are just as valuable after this process as you were before. You have just as much potential, and you are just as amazing of a person. Yes, state office is an amazing opportunity, but it is not the only amazing opportunity. This was not meant for you, but something is. I promise once you find your opportunity, it will be even better and you will be so thankful things worked out the way they did.

No matter what, this is an extremely exciting time! Know that everything will fall into place exactly as it is supposed to. You will go on to do amazing things, as a state officer or not. Always remember that many people wish you the best.

Yours Truly,

Past State Officer
