Why Every High School Student Should Join FFA
First things first, joining FFA has impacted my life in so many ways and has honestly been the best decision I have made in my life (so far). I know what you’re probably thinking: I have no background in agriculture. Guess what? You don’t need to! FFA is WAY more than cows, sows, and plows! Here’s just a few reasons on why you should totally become an FFA member:
Lifelong Friendships & Once-in-a-Lifetime Experiences
Since joining FFA, I’ve made so many new friends from across the state and even a couple in different states. FFA offers a variety of different activities ranging from Career Development Events (competitions), leadership conferences and camps. Since my time as a freshman, I’ve been attending as many activities as I could and have somehow managed to make at least one new friend at each event. Overall, I’ve made so many new memories and friends from all over the state! And what if you're not a "people person"? Don't worry, neither was I when I came into high school, but FFA definitely broke me out of my shell, and it will for you too!
Better Resumés, Awards & Scholarships
This has to be the one of the most rewarding things that I’ve seen through FFA. FFA provides many opportunities to be a part of as well as leadership roles on a school, section, state, or national level. Many of these opportunities lead to career success since they provide outstanding information to add to your experiences on a resumé when you go to apply for a job. Scholarships are a great thing for seniors enrolled in an agriculture course since there are so many different opportunities. A lot of my FFA friends are either in college or applying to a college, and most of them have nearly all of their schooling paid for since receiving so many scholarships from FFA.
FFA opens the doors for many career opportunities in the field of agriculture. When I first joined FFA, I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do when I grew up, but now I plan on becoming an agricultural educator. Whether it is production or business, FFA will definitely help you find a career that will lead you to lifelong success.
Many FFA members have opportunities to gain money outside of getting scholarships. In the fall, FFA members make poster projects about their record books and have the ability to gain an extra $20 from their poster and record book alone. However, in some contests such as the State Proficiency Contest, you can win $200 off of an interview and the quality of your record books.
FFA for life!
