The One Online Tool Every Chapter Officer Needs
Drowning in to-do lists? Struggling to get a grip on delegating tasks to other officers? Wondering how to keep track of ALL the homework assignments? Give Trello a try!
Trello is an online-based app that allows you to organize and track every single detail of your life. Seem intimidating? Well, you can make it as simple or as complicated as you want. Do not be overwhelmed!
To manage your whole life in a super easy, organized and amazingly simple way, you’ll need to set up an account on trello.com, then brainstorm how you want to set up your board. Think of a board as the thing all your lists go in. A.K.A. “notepad”. Then, you’ll need to decide what lists you want to add to your board. Typical ones for an officer might be different roles you play in your life - whether it be your role as a chapter officer, planning your chapter banquet, your classwork or homework, or your SAE project.
I’ve set up an example board so we can get some visual aid going to help explain all the complex things I just talked about.
This is your board. It shows all of your lists (lists in this case = Officer, Banquet, Homework and SAEP) Within those lists are “cards” (think, line items on your list). Once you get past the different names for things that are obvious, you can get started on dumping your brain into this monster!
Now is when you can make it extra complicated or supremely simple. Add as much or as little as you want, but I want to show you a few hacks. You can open up your cards, and this is where the magic happens.
Opening your card does many amazing things. It allows you to break down a task with checklists, allows other members on the board (e.g. other officers on your team) to add comments, add deadlines, or add attachments. The possibilities are endless!
Don’t think Trello is for you? Try it out, see how it jives with your personal type of productivity. If you find you don’t like it, look into other project management apps like Slack or Asana.
Trello has made a huge difference in my life due to the fact that I can pull it up anywhere; it’s all saved to the cloud. It’s got a great app, and satisfies my ever-increasing need to check things off lists! Give Trello a try today to manage all your irons in the fire.
