An open letter to Greenhands
An open letter to Greenhands,
I know this is a lot. You walk into your ag class on the first day and don’t know what to expect. Ag isn’t like any other class. Some take advantage of this, and some never fully realize how amazing this program will be.
The first thing you will encounter is BIG conference. This will either show you everything these next four years will be or everything they will not be. So, go see what all the hype is about. Go interact with this year’s state officers or talk to fellow FFA members.
Every member there is in the exact same shoes as you; they’re still learning if this is where they belong or not. So, go make friends and figure it out together. One of my closest friends today is someone I met at BIG conference.
The amazing thing about FFA is you can be as involved as you want. I was the student who went on every trip and competed in every activity, but you don’t have to if that’s not your jam. Find where you fit in. Find your why.
Why are you in FFA? For some, it’s because they want to be in the ag class, for others they’re working on their public speaking skills. Maybe you’ll strive for something higher, like being a state or national officer, or maybe an ag teacher. Whatever it is you need to find why.
FFA brings some of the best memories and the best relationships. When you spend most of your time around your ag teacher and fellow members, you quickly become more than friends; you become family.
So, Greenhands, enjoy this first year, and wear the blue jacket with pride. It looks good on you.
A member just like you
