Regular Women During Fall vs. Farm Wives During Fall
If you have a social media account, you know women that have already busted out the pumpkin spice candles and decorated their entire home with fall decor. However, how does the farmer's wife feel about this highly anticipated season?
First of all, there is no time to sit around enjoying fall scented candles. She is most likely working right alongside her husband in the fields. If she is not in the field, she is holding down the fort back at the farmstead. This includes a variety of activities such as tending to the livestock, feeding calves, assisting with calving, milking cows and running to town for parts.
There is no time to visit a pumpkin patch, apple orchard or corn maze. She doesn't have time to decorate her house perfectly with fall decor. Heck, my definition of fall decorating is a pumpkin on the porch I picked up from my monthly trip to town.
*Makes a mental note to grow pumpkins in the garden next year*
We must not forget that she has her very own harvest to tend to. Her garden is most likely exploding with produce that needs to be picked, washed, prepped and preserved. Any gardeners knows that this is a full time job by itself!
Not only this, but she also must tend to the children, cook and deliver meals to the harvest crew, wash the farmer's dirty laundry (and we know they get extra dirty during harvest) and keep the house tidy.
All this being said, harvest is truly an exciting season despite the hassle. There is nothing better than the cool air, the sound of a corn dryer and the excitement in her husband's eyes when the harvest is plentiful. Maybe when it rains, she can sit and enjoy her pumpkin spice scented candle.
